Volume 3, Issue 1, January, 2009

From the Editors

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the January, 2009 issue of the International School Bangkok Journal of Physics.  The research conducted in the Physics Department at ISB last semester was varied and interesting. Research was conducted on roller coasters, complex pendulums, cavitation, resonance, bubble rings, and smoke rings. Two researchers were invited to submit their work to the Journal. The papers were peer reviewed and, after some modification, were accepted for publication in this issue.

The first paper investigates the effect of the size of turbulators on the drag coefficient of a sphere. The second paper presents research on the characteristics of standing waves in a recorder. The research was conducted by the authors and the papers were written and edited by the authors in consultation with the Editors. If you have any comments on the papers published in this issue, or would like to consult with the authors on their results, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Volume 3, Issue 2, June, 2009

From the Editors

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the June, 2009 issue of the International School Bangkok Journal of Physics.  This is the end of our third year publishing the ISB Journal of Physics. Our upper level Physics students were in grade 9 when the Journal was founded, so have been exposed to the idea of conducting and publishing good quality research for their entire high school careers. There was a high level of interest this issue, with ten groups submitting their research for consideration. We believe we have begun to succeed in our goal of creating a culture of conducting and publishing good-quality scientific research among our Physics students.

The papers selected for publication this issue include investigations on coefficients of restitution, golf putts, electric arcing in pickles, and cushioning impacts. The research was conducted by the authors and the papers were written and edited by the authors in consultation with the Editors. If you have any comments on the papers published in this issue, or would like to consult with the authors on their results, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Eales
